My father passed away on March 13th, 2010. The Subhanpura, Vadodara municipal office (Ward 10) processed our urgent request for issuing a death certificate. Service was prompt and courteous and the certificate was indeed issued quite quickly - however, during the process, we got a call from one of the clerks, citing that she and her boss "needed the money". We were disgusted. Keeping aside our mourning for our deceased Dad, we just paid Rs.2000.
My father stood all his life against corruption and bribery in all manners. It is a sad commentary on the state of our municipality's affairs that we had to pay a bribe to issue his own death certificate.
