Bribe for my mother's post-mortem report

Reported on August 22, 2011 from Kathua , Jammu and Kashmir  ι Report #4211

My mother (********** **********) was travelling for Amarnath Yatra this year and died in a road traffic accident on 02-july-2011. She was taken to District Hospital, Kathua but was declared dead on arrival. I am a resident of Maharashtra and I reached Kathua by flight on 03-July-2011. Me, my cousin sister and brother-in-law were the only 3 members of our family during my mother's last rites on 4-July-11. On 5-July-11, I met the doctor who had conducted my mother's post-mortem. The concerned doctor informed me that, he had handed over Rs. 8500 recovered from my mother's saree, to my brother-in-law and that I was obliged to pay him some money. He asked me to pay Rs. 1,000/- but I paid him 800 so that I could catch a flight back to Mumbai.

This has been one of my most sad moments as a citizen of India. I had lost my mother 1200 kms away from home in a road accident. The shock of the accident, her last rites was very heavy but I am pained by the ugly face of corruption in our country. I can provide the name and other details of the doctor who asked me for the bribe but I won't share that on this ********** because of the guidelines mentioned.
