I needed to get a police clearance certificate to obtain a Visa. I needed to bribe a policeman who came to our house (otherwise he insisted that my passport photo was not mine, because my ears looked longer!)- then I also needed to pay a bribe to move the process forward- this time I was asked for a bribe right on the premises of the Taltola police station- which is the police station closest to my home in kolkata. I decided to pay up, because I needed the Visa to travel abroad. My father was surprised that the bribe was demanded openly within the police station.
