Bribe for Nothing

Reported on October 30, 2011 from Kolkata , West Bengal  ι Report #3608

Today i went to Chandni (the Electronics Hub of Kolkata) to buy a new Desktop PC. While returning home, i was not allowed to take the Metro Rail due the bulky size of my Cabinet (Desktop CPU).
So, I took a cab and headed to my place. I took the EM bypass way to avoid traffic. Just after crossing the Ruby hospital our cab was stopped by a police van. Our taxi driver stopped the cab, get down and went to the police van which stopped just few meters behind our cab. They had some discussion and the driver came to me and told that the officer is calling me. I got down and went to the Police officer seated in the front seat.
-What is there in the box?
-That is a desktop computer.
-Where did you get it?
-Just bought it from Chandni. The Metro did not allow me to travel with this box so, i took the cab.
I also handed over the Challan to the officer.
-Is it for business purpose?
-No, i bought it for my personal use only.
He gave irritated look to the Challan, took a breath and asked me:
You have to go with us in Kasba Police Station and tell our boss the same thing. Your are not supposed to carry this box in a cab.
We had few more Question and Answer kind of discussion.
The flunky driver told him 'don't trouble him and give him a small case'.
He said, ‘ok, then will it be fine if it is 600?’
-It's too much for nothing.
Then he presented a lots of laws and tried the threatened me for some serious trouble.
He noted down my name and phone no.
I said i can give at max 200. Then another so called police officer seated in the back said '**********, pay 400 and dangle'.
It was too late already. I thought it's better to pay them the money. I paid and left.
When i was back on the cab i found the police van passing away and behind the van it was written:
'For Help Please call ****'
