When we purchased our flat in East Bangalore, the builder's representative had said that the Occupancy Certificate (OC) would be received as soon as a case filed by the Green Tribunal was cleared. After 2 years, the Supreme Court over ruled the Green Tribunal's stand that a certain area should be left from a public drainage.
Everyone in the flat expected that we would get the OC soon, now. However, the builder came back saying that due to many deviations from the plan, we could not get the OC. A bribe amounting to Rs.1.10 crores had to be paid to the BBMP, which would amount to around Rs.70,000/- . After much bargaining, he settled for Rs. 20,000/-.
With no other alternative, all flat owners had to pay this amount to the concerned BBMP officials in Mahadevpura.
