I had applied for a new passport and police had come for verification. I had to pay a bribe of Rs 200/- to him so that he will provide the report that I am the person currently living in the same address as mentioned in the application. Its senseless as I am not trying to hide anything. But I had to pay this bribe as one of friend had his passport delay by 6 months as he refused to pay this bribe. The policemen say we are traveling in the sun and heat just to verify your passport, but isn't it their duty to do so. They were hired by the government to execute the same. The bribe however small i may be itself shows how malignant the system in our country is. Just Imagine if a terrorist had applied for the passport with illegal documents, just a bribe will be enough to prevent any verification against him, thus threatening the security of the country.
