My Dad expired in a remote location in the north and the death certificate was issued by a local panchayat. when i submitted this in visakhapatnam to claim postal savings balance for nominee ( my mother ) they made me come a few times and also tried to threaten that the death certificate given may not be valid. after runnign around a few times i was told about the "formalities" and he said normally we charge 1-2% of the deposit amount. i finally paid 1200 Rs for a deposit amount if 2 lakhs after negotiation
