I was on bike and had to take a right for my home for which I had to travel 50 meter on wrong side. This is on the city side lanes and not on main lanes. If I had not taken the wrong side for 50 meters, I would have to traveled 3 km. The local policeman (not traffic police) stopped me and asked for my license. I showed all the papers and then he said I have to pay 500 as fine. Shocked I said, it cant be 500. He said it is and asked me to pay Rs 500/- or else do some "kharcha pani". I requested for pardon and when he didnt buzz, I asked him to make a correct challan which I am sure is not more than 100. But he insisted on Rs Rs 500/- challan and said I can solve the matter in Rs 100/- only. It is only after tough pleading that he left me for Rs 50/-. That policeman was a normal police man and I am not sure if they even have the right to prosecute people for traffic violations.
