This was on my return journey from Tirupati to Visakhapatnam on…

Reported on January 24, 2014 from Tirupati , Andhra Pradesh  ι Report #39118

This was on my return journey from Tirupati to Visakhapatnam on a train. It was middle of the night and I suddenly woke up to some disturbance near me. What I woke up to was - A senior looking policeman holding my expensive cellphone about to walkaway from me.

I said "that is my cellphone" (I was quite certain that he took it out of pocket while I was asleep).

He said "Do you know where I found this? it is two blocks of berths away?" (which if it were true, he wouldn't be standing so close to me where I was sleeping)

I said "it is my phone, my contacts and even my pictures will be on it and I show them"

He said "may be, but I will report this to the station and you can write a written complaint and collect it"

At this point I was really frustrated, disappointed and disgusted by the utter lack of ethics and reason.

He said "you can pay me 100 rupees and take it or there is no more argument"

I took out my wallet and paid him. One of those moments of utter disappointment and disgust that I can never forget in my entire life. Such a shame. I was a student back then, that phone was bought with money I saved from a long time and I could do nothing else but pay the thief-policeman to return it. The train station was Samarlakota in Andhrapradesh.
