Bribeed to carry away 47" LED TV at the customs

Reported on June 12, 2014 from Hyderabad , Telangana  ι Report #41393

I bought a 47" LG6200 LED TV in Malaysia and had a tough time to carry it in a Vehicle to bring it till the airport. I bought it for 3500 MYR with a warranty only in Malaysia. There was a 1000 MYR (Rs18000) price difference for the TV when compared with India market price. I taught it came for a good deal for a product like that without sales TAX in Malaysia. After the TV arrived safe without any damage, the customs officer had a look at the TV model and left while I am in the queue for the customs check. By the time my turn came, I was surprised I had to pay the difference amount of Rs 20000 to clear the customs check. The customs officer bargained for Rs 12000 without the customs paid receipt. I had no choice than to pay him some amount (Rs7000) after a big bargain as they were reluctant to take Malaysian Ringgits. I was able to exchange currency in the airport for a very less rate. Finally, I carried the TV with the nearly same price without warranty.
