Bribing for something that I earned and was my right!!!

Reported on March 11, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #26850

I graduated from a private medical college in Karnataka with an MBBS in 2004 and needed the temporary Karnataka medical registration that gives you a licence number and you could do your internship after that. Most of my class were from north India so as soon as we got our results, we rushed to Bangalore to get our registrations, really, really excited on becoming doctors and going back home for internships. We were at the office (I dont remember now what the exact name of the office is that does this registartion). We waited whole morning and then afternoon...then as it was getting close to the office closing time, a bunch of students approached the officers there. The process generally takes very less time to be completed. Most of us had plans to leave Bangalore soon after and had pre-booked tickets as we ********** been told that it just takes a couple of hours. Well, we were nicely told that as we all were young doctors and were probably going to be rich too (that's what they said!!!) we should think about them too. When probed further, we were bluntly told 500 rupees per certificate in 15 minutes. They had all of them ready but wouldn't give them for another week if no money!!! Well, so much for our excitement about becoming real people in the real world after 4 and a half years of being buried beneath books!! I have to admit that at that time we were so tired after the unveristies and the stress about the results, we didnt put up much of a resistance! We coughed up the money after an hour of frustration, delibration and anger at the system and our perceived helplessness! And we didnt want to miss our Rajdhanis too! So, with some embarassment. I admit we gave in and got our certificates instantly. Pathetic, isnt it, what the system has become and what we have become! That was a very unpleasant deeling that I still carry with me...I dont think about it often but this ********** revived those memories. Great job guys! Keep up the good work.
