Cop asking for favours

Reported on March 19, 2018 from Rajkot , Gujarat  ι Report #180040

I work as a XXXXXX. A police man came to our hotel and asked us to book a room for his personal guests for 7 days free of cost. I asked him to pay for atleast 60% of the tariff if not more for us to not bear any loss. Upon asking for payment he got agitated and started threatening us indirectly. I was talking to him in a civilised manner throughout the whole conversation. He later asked me to come out of the hotel as the cctv was on inside the premises. As i went out he abused me and threatened me with dire consequences for saying him a no. He also threatened me by asking me to run my business from now on. this is not the first time such a request is made. Normally we get such requests from police staff to accommodate their relatives free of cost for a day or two. We fulfil the request for us to run our business peacefully. Above that during the times of elections or vvip visits we give our rooms free of cost. But long duration of stays makes our life and business miserable. I am worried now that our hotel will be subject to abuse of power by certain police officials. The harassment of guests or irrelevant checkings won't be desirable by any hotelier. We are doing our business with utmost honesty and pay our taxes as a responsible business venture. And such threats from the people who are expected to guard us is highly disturbing in nature. What choice does one have when his livelihood is depended on it.
