Earlier, police used to abuse you, make you wait for a loong time and then demand and then argue and settle on a bribe amount.
My case was different, i was caught speakin on mobile while drivin. Was just asked my license, then the constable took me to the seargent's bike and then filed some case, (Wat case, i donno, whn asked, small petty case was the reply. No receipt was also issued. V will pay the fine of Rs 300 not the actual RS 1500 to the mobile court on Wednesday. You can collect the receipt there was the reply.

No arguing, no pleading, demanding stuff. Was treated in a dignified manner, but they still collected the brib and the entire isssue was over in 10 mins.
