I got a call from this postman called Suresh who is employed with HAL post office, Bangalore. I had moved out of my apartment in Bellandur just the previous day, and he called me from the gate of my apartment to say that he had come to deliver my income tax refund cheque. I wasn't expecting that cheque since the refund was supposed to be transferred online. Anyway, when I requested him to either leave the envelope at the security or that I'll have it collected through my father-in-law with a letter of authority, he refused and stated the laws. Long story short, he took a bribe of Rs 200 from me (that I asked the security guard to pay him) in return for handing over my post to the guard. If I did not pay, he said, he'd just send it back to the income tax department and I could then, in his words, 'keep chasing them'.
