Driving License

Reported on March 6, 2011 from Mysore , Karnataka  ι Report #27557

When i went to get my driver's license for light motor vehicles through a driving school, they asked us to pay Rs.1600, which included the fee for learner's license, driving license and fee for teaching as well as the bribe for the RTO. on the day of test, the RTO asked us to do simple things and the duration of test for each candidate from driving school was about 2 minutes. anyone who came on their own were grilled properly and many were rejected. So, i understood that people would be rejected when they did not pay money to RTO.

This became more evident when both my brother and his friend took the test for motorcycle license. my brother was taught by his friend who is an expert in bike driving, but after the test was over, he was rejected and my brother was cleared because he came from driving school and his friend came by himself.

when i went to take my learner's license for mototcycle, the officer asked me so many questions and asked me many signals which i have not seen anywhere till now. but somehow he thought he was being too strict and said that i was fine and he would clear me. but for driving license, i went through driving school since i wanted to get it done in one shot and not come again and again. the officer that day asked all of us to take a ride on the bike and then he took a list of names and he cleared all the people who came from school and very few from a large number of people who came independently.

i did not want to pay the bribe, but without paying it, they will make you take the test sometimes, 3 to 4 times. so, i had to do so.

there are many more instances, but this is just a small one
