I am a resident of lonavala, near pune. I had applied for a fresh passport application, i received a text message saying that my documents are pending for verification from the nearest police department. I went to Lonavala City Police Station, where i was told that the office sitting in the next room was the charging officer handling Passport verifications.
I went to him, after a series of regular questions, i taught it was done, and then he said that he will pass my documents and send it to the passport office.
i was about to leave, when he said that i need to pay Rs 500.
i thought that it is some kind of a regular fee. I paid him Rs 500.
Later on one of my friend said that i had actually paid a bribe. I felt very stupid and angry on myself.
I again went inside to clarify this thing. Then the office said that "500 has to be paid to get the documents cleared, or the documents stay in police station only, no one will further process the documents."
I got out with the guilt.
But, I Paid A Bribe.
