EMIGRATION

Reported on September 30, 2010 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #30515

It was my 1st time in the year 1996 when I am returning from Saudi Arabia on 3 months vacation after spending 4 years continuously there. Upon approaching emigration official after 1 hour long queue in Bombay ********** Airport (that time it was not Mumbai or CSIA), he directly went to the last page of my passport (still existing nowadays if you noticed after returning from abroad vacations) where there is ECR / ECNR endorsement & he found it was ECR. Since I went to Saudi Arabia 1st time which is temporarily approved for migration. And I tried to convince emigration police that when I will return back to Saudi Arabia I will endorsed to permanent ECNR because there is 1 of rules that if you reside continuously 3 years in abroad it will be endorsed to ECNR upon application.

But all my efforts in convincing him was in vain. Initially he told me to give SR. 50 & I am keep convincing him but he thought I am arguing with him for my intention to not give a bribe of SR. 50 & he keep increasing the bribe amount & finally I paid him SR. 150/- (Approx. INR. 1,500/- at that time). This was my 1st bribe which I forced to pay because I am returning after spending 4 years in Saudi Arabia & I was in a hurry to see my family, loved ones & my beloved birth place (Bombay) the city which is a hope for so many Indians for so many purposes.

Finally, I pray to god it will ever & never happened to any other Indians returning from abroad. PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN (MERA ********** MAHAAN) & *******
