I had applied for renewal of my passport. After filing my background information in the morning, the police called up and asked my father to show up at the police station for "further information". I insisted on going with him to the station. Being a young girl, the policeman did not ask for a bribe from my dad in front of me. However, even a month after this incident somehow, my papers had not reached the passport office in Pune. I went to Pune myself to check up on the status. When I submitted the xeroxes of the police verification, I received my passport in 3 days. After receiving my passport, I was called by a police and yelled at for "bypassing the system" and going to Pune myself. He threatened to create problems for my newly issued passport. I had to get a signature from a civil servant and my father had to go to the police station (by himself) to pay them Rs. 300 to close the matter.
