Fault or no Fault "fine" is manadatory

Reported on June 16, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #7246

Recently our company received a notice from sales tax dept in regards to sales taxes submitted for last quater. Now first the person who came to deliver the letter asked for "chai paani". I told him boss is not present and I can't help it. Then he started cribbing that it is so hot outside, etc, etc. I just told him sorry I won't be able to do anything and he went.

Now coming back to point, the notice said that there was irregularities with respect to 'C' form submitted by us and we were supposed to take necessary documents to support our case on particular date at the office.

When we went there we showed them all the C form, but at time of filling the tax return we didn't submit one form. That was because the 'C' form was issued late and we received it after the submission date.

He asked for Rs 2500 but as we had already paid the tax but had not only submitted the form. We started to argue thatit is not our fault but actually fault of his own department that they didn't provide the 'C' form on time.

He said it is not his lookout and not his concern. His "job" is to check irregularities in collection of taxes. Finally after lot of discussion and pleading, he settled for Rs 500.

So you can that whether it is our fault or not we have to the "fine"
