I am a foreigner, who works for a public health charity (NGO). I was issued a research visa that was set to expire before the end of my program. I went to the FRO office to request an extension. After wasting 5 hours of my time, despite being the only one in the office, I was told there was an 8,000 INR fee to extend my visa 6 weeks. The FRO is 3.5 hours from where I live, so the administrator easily wore down my patience and I gave in and paid the bribe so I would not have to come back out to the office.
