I have purchased some Gold in Australia from my salary and I have full invoices of proof for the purchase. The same was sent to India to my family by a friend of mine. When my Gold reached hyderabad, the customs people have asked to pay 25,000 INR for the Gold Import which is much more than the regular custom duty fee of 220/- per 10grm of gold. Finally they have settled for 18,000 INR. My friend has nagotiated for AUD $100 and paid the customs person the amount to save my Gold. I really wish I am there so that I pay the full amount and take a receipt for the amount I paid for my Gold. Unfortunate that we have to bribe to get our own earnings and savings to India. There is the BIG difference between other countries and our country.
