I had to renew my passport. Please note RENEW!!! not the 1st time issue. But looks the process of police verification still applied even though I've been residing at the same place for over 27 years. Police came to our home. Got all the documents. Then said 500 INR is verification fee and the officers will ask for another 500 INR. His tone was so commanding that we were forced to pay 1000 INR. What's worse!!! I had to go to the police station the next day to sign in his register. I had to wait for 3 hours even though I was the 1st person in the queue. The officer in-charge was late by 1.5 hours (He had gone for evening snacks at 5 PM and came back only at 6.30 PM), and then he was busy attending personal phone calls and solving petty issues concerning other police officers. That one day shattered my hopes that the situation in this country will improve.
