I faced a similar issue while bringing back a Sony LED TV used for 1 year from Australia. As per the date of purchase the cost of TV was around 44K INR. However, the custom official pulled up the catalogue for Sony India and told the price is 69,900 and that's the amount on which I need to pay duty.
After discussions of couple of hours, he advised to put self declared value of the TV as 45k. I paid Rs 3600 as duty and collected the slip.
