I got a call from the IT office to appear with all original documents otherwise face a "demand notice". This despite taking the trouble of calculating every last paisa of income and honestly paying tax. Upon furnishing all the original documents the lady told me that a Form 16 from my (PSU) bank was not "printed clearly" and the Bank TIN was not clear. FInally she filled in this number herself, and then coolly told me to pay Rs 1000 cash as "service charge"! This is how honest taxpayers are made victims of extortion!
