I bribed to a customs officer

Reported on March 4, 2011 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #28020

I was travelling from US to Delhi. Was carrying two laptops with me as my friends told its valid to take two laptops. The security guard stopped me at the customs and asked how many laptops are u carrying. I said two. He called another officer and that officer again asked the same thing. I told I have two laptops. One my personal and other from my office. He said you are supposed to carry only one. I said but other one is my office laptop. He asked me for a proof that the other laptop is office laptop. He said you are supposed to carry a letter from your office saying this laptop is your office laptop. I said I am sorry. I am not aware of that. Then he told if I put customs duty you have to pay 30% of the price of the laptop. I said I am sorry but I don't know that I am not supposed to carry two laptops. He asked how much cash are you carrying? I told 2000 in Rs and around 30-40$. He then wrote 40$ on a card and showed me and told 'Give this amount and leave. Otherwise you will have to pay 30% customs'. I did not have much option. So I paid him.
