My 1st night in Goa in 1990, was a young backpacker who stopped at a late night road block, they found the smallest bit of dope ( i was young and stupid) however they told me i faced 10 years in jail , i did not have much more than 200 rupees on me, so they took us back to our house, removed my passport and i had to go to calangute police station the following day. there i was held in a meeting room and 2 policeman in plain clothes took me to 2 different banks, as my travelers cheques was to much for 1 bank in those days, anyhow once they got all the money i had $500 they gave me back my passport and that was the end of my holiday :(
