I had applied for my passport renewal on 20-August-2010 @ PSK, Lalbagh, Bangalore. After regular status check on PSK website, I was told by the PSK call center person that my file has been withheld at the Commissioner of Polices' office at Bangalore to understand the reason. I visited CoP's office at around 11am on 5-Oct-2010. I was directed to check/enquire about my passport address verification status at 'Single Window' counter # 2. There were a few people and I had to wait for my turn in a queque. The officer seemed courteous and effecient in responding to the queries. And I got an impression that things have chnaged w.r.t the way the government officials handle things, atleast at the CoP's office. However, I was surprised when he asked me for money to send the email notification to my local police station (which is BSK 2nd Stage) for address verification. I pretended that I did not have money and mentioned to him that I just have Rs. 40 and I needed that to get back to my workplace. He was shameless is asking Rs.20 from that. I told him, 'people are watching us'....he said it is OK. Just give me the money. And I had to impart with Rs. 20 to get my work done!
