I Paid bribe at the Mumbai Airport

Reported on March 4, 2013 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #34230

I had been to singapore for a holiday with my family, after consulting a lot of people there, we were told that it was permissible to carry a tv which is within 40 inches. But during our return to India, we were stopped by the customs officials Mr.Govardhan.J.Godhe and Mr.N.K.Prasad for carrying two 40 inch samsung tvs. We were 3 people and Our baggage includind the tvs were well within the permissible limit of 20 kilos per passenger.

But still, we were harassed by the above officials to pay a bribe of Rs.10,000. After a lot of pleadings and negotiaions, their demand came down to Rs.5,000 and 2 Johnie walker whisky bottles. And finally the deal was finalised for Rs.5,000 and a Johnie walker whisky bottle. We had no other go but to pay up and get out of there.

I was asked to enter a toilet close by, where a tall constable was already waiting to collect cash from me. Mean while, we missed our connecting flight to bangalore due to this mess and I along with my family were stranded at the airport for another 4 hours for the next flight.

The best part is, there was a poster which said " Please report to the ACP/DCP of customs in case of a demand for bribe" ....but but but, the deal was finalised only aftre getting the nod of the Asst.Commisioner of customs Mr.N.K.Mishra.........What a pitty!!!!

The smartest of the above 4 was the tall constable in the toilet, he had kept his mobile phone in his shirt pocket that his name was completely covered.
