I had to pay Rs.7500 as bribe to clear the income tax for the FY 2007-2008. Although I had all the necessary receipts and documents, the officer was very focussed towards the bribe and started asking documents from FY 2000-2001 and forward. Also I received 4 notices from Income tax department from this officer asking explanation for Rs. 2 Lakh in my bank account. Feeling terrible and spending almost a month for this, I had to pay the bribe as I am losing revenue much more than my bribe.
What's the sad story is - I had all the papers and documents, but I am guilty to pay this bribe as I did not have enough time to go against it. I had to take care of my family and leaving my office work and going behind this will make my family suffer. I am not defending myself, but the fact being said.
