- I Paid A Bribe

So I just got my passport delivered to my house by an India post official in Gurgaon. I took the passport from him, signed and said thank you. This is when he said ' is thank you all I am going to get ?'
I know paying a bribe for passport delivery is the norm but I was surprised by how blatantly and rudely he asked for it.
I didn't want to argue I went in to get the money. When I get back outside, I see this man leaning against the doorframe. I hand him the money and he says, while sizing me up ' vaise aapko dekhe lagta nahi aap married ho' .
I was speechless . I mumbled thank you (of all things )and quickly shut the door on his face and triple locked it. Thankfully I had taken my passport from him in the beginning. I am wondering what I would have done if I hadn't and I had been forced to continue this uncomfortable conversation with a decidedly creepy man.
I have met, handled creeps before but never at my front door.
I am racking my brains now thinking how I could have handled this better and what to do if something like this happens again.
Also what can we do to change the scenario and the force the people in the system at least to behave decently.
