Karnataka Policemen on a checkpost on Goa-Karnataka border harassing people carrying liquor

- Paid INR 300
I, along with 2 other friends had gone for a trip to Goa from April 2 to 5. We were returning by a private bus on the night of Sunday, April 5. Like many others, we were carrying liquor from Goa, of course with a valid permit. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, on the first check post in Karnataka, near Karnataka-Goa border, a few policemen entered the bus and asked if anyone was carrying liquor. We informed them that we were carrying liquor and showed them the permits. They asked us to come out of the bus and one of them asked us to pay INR 200 per permit, without giving any specific reason for the same. When we asked for the reason, they started threatening us. 4-5 of them took one of my friends away and threatened him with confiscating all the liquor bottles. Their behavior was literally like goons. Eventually, they took INR 300 for 3 permits. Needless to say, they didn't give us any challan or receipt for this. They did the same thing with many other passengers.
Everyday, hundreds of people travel between Goa and Karnataka and many of them carry liquor courtesy of it being cheaper in Goa, and there shouldn't be anything wrong with this, if one is carrying it within legal boundaries and with valid permits. I'm sure these policemen do the same thing with the passengers travelling by other buses, and sadly most of us, are left with no other choice but to give them what they demand. Everyday, they are ripping people of thousands of rupees illegitimately.
Police is considered to be the protector of the society and should be one of the most respected professions. But in reality it isn't, thanks to such improper behavior of some policemen, who are disrespecting the efforts many other honest policemen. I request Karnataka police to not let these goons disguised as policemen take the reputation of the entire police department downhill.
