The traffic signal turned red in Saltlake, near the stadium. It was*******1999 and I had come to Calcutta on a visit. I was an inexperienced driver and did not see the signal turning red. The traffic police vehicle escorted me to the nearest outpost, threatened to drag me to court and demanded Rs 1000. I said I could pay only Rs 100. Not satisfied they wanted to see the content of my purse. It contained Rs 230. They (two of them) took the entire Rs 230 and let me go.
