It was raining very hard in the evening and I was out with a friend (a girl) driving to go for a movie. Due to heavy rain the visibility was minimal and we stopped aside with the parking lights on. It was broad daylight and on the main road. After some time a police vehicle with 3 policemen inside stopped in front of us. Seeing a girl with me they started to harass us. They threatened me to seize my vehicle and asked me to drive to a police station. They took me inside a deserted lane just opposite the police station and called another officer there. The officer threatened me of dire consequences like putting me in a lock up, calling up at our home, seizing the vehicle. They kept on harassing me and my friend for more than an hour. They asked me for a bribe of 3000, to which I agreed. Mean time they already had taken my licence and all the car documents, and also had me sign on a compound slip to register a case. I told them that I am not carrying enough cash and I have to go to an ATM. They asked me to go and get it back asap. I withdrew 3000 from a nearby ATM and gave it to them. They handed me all my documents back except my licence and charged me with a 100 rs case for paking in a no parking area.
It was a traumatic 1 hour for me and my friend. Being with a girl, surrounded by police, who were worse than dacoits, I did not have any choice but to acquiesce to their illicit demands.
I am willing to share more details if necessary actions can be taken against the said police officials. i had even posted the same in a message on Mamata Banerjee's facebook page, but yet to get any reply to my message.
