I had applied for a passport last month. After the visit to the passport office, a man from cid came to my house for verification. After it was done. He asked for ₹500 as a mandatory fee claiming that this was the amount he had to shell out for 'my work'. And this was the amount i was suppose to pay. I was low on cash n so somehow i managed to bring this down to ₹300. After a few days a police official calls up and asks me to come down to the station with the documents for verification. After this was done, o was again asked to pay ₹1000 as 'kharcha paani' because he had done the work for me. this is a common thing most of the parts of Jamshedpur. All of my friends had to go through the same process of bribery to get their passport made. I have even heard a few cases where the bribe was denied and so was the passport.
