I am married for 7years and recently went to my hometown(Samana, Distt. Patiala) for marriage registration. it was a harrowing experience. i was asked to prepare file as per the checklist for which i spent the entire day, documents like marriage invitation cards, pics of me getting married, some credible people to vouch that i got married(both sides me and my wife) were required. i produced all of them and at the end Mr. ********** from Municipal committee Samana(147101) asked a bribe of 5100 hundred and told this amount will be divided between him, registrar and tehsildar. My father negotiated and we ended up paying 3100INR after entire day was flushed preparing the file required by them
i had to get new cards printed and when told the same to ********** he said, had we spoken about money initially he would have not required cards. System is so corrupt that all think that it is their right to demand money for these things.
i had no option than to pay this amount.
One point i wanted to make is that if i had nobody to stand by me authorizing that i got married to my spouse i could for sure not get my marriage certificate made which is really really bad a process.
This is the second time i have paid bribe to officials of Punjab government, first time for my hose registration
