In goa most traffic checkpoints, it seems, are not there in order to regulatecthe traffic but to enhance the pocket money of the police. the main target are tourists, domestic and international. in my open jeep me and my family were visible as a foreigners from a distance. among dense traffic we were deliberately picked and asked to stop at the road side.
I had my indian driving license with me, but unfortunately was not carrying my car papers. I was ready to pay a fine and asked for a receipt if I paid something. the officer said we would have to come to the police station if I wanted a receipt. instead he wanted a payment as a "christmas gift". as my parents are in their late 70s and we had a long drive ahead, I opted for the "easier way out" and paid 500Rs and was allowed to move on
