Respected Sir,
I am an IIT passed out working as an R&D engineer for a reputed company.
Today while I was parking my car near my office, I gave a left indicator and was turning left . During that time I was even driving in the left lane.
Suddenly a person who was riding very fast on his two wheeler trying to overtake my car from left side hit my car and fell down.
I stopped my car and was about to ask him what happened.
Mean while he started shouting that " I am a police wala and I can beat you down to earth with all the unparliamentary, offensive and abusive language"
He called two of his police friends who reached there and instead of asking for what happened or doing primary investigation they took his side and started threatening me.
They didn't even bother to check the papers of both the vehicles and were not in a mood of listening to me.
The guy who hit my car was
-> Not wearing a helmet
-> His two wheeler was not in a proper condition
-> Tried to overtake from left side with over speed
-> Saying that he was a policeman threatened to beat me
-> Used offensive and abusive words
-> Called his police friends who came on a traffic police bike without helmet and started bluffing that I did not give the indicator, which was still ON when they were removing my car from the location. I showed this to them, they were not listening
-> The other policemen talked to me without any respect and threatened me
-> Finally they forced me to apologize and asked to pay for the repairs of the two wheeler.
-> When I asked to get it done and provide the bill, they threatened me again and demanded for Rs.2000/- for a very small repair which wouldn't even cost 500/-..
-> They took the money and left.
These police officers are from Mohan Nagar Police Chowki, Pimpri, Pune. I am not sure but I guess one of their names was Mr. Ravindra
Sir, I am a normal citizen of India paying my taxes regularly and hoping to live in a safe, secure and cultivated place.
If police people think that being at police, they can break the rules, abuse the people without any respect, loot them by threatening, then I am sorry to say that you are a big Failure forgetting your fundamental duty that you are here to serve people.
We approach police when we are afraid of some problems, but what if the Police themselves try to scare us.
I could have sit quiet and let it go saying that this is common, but this is not correct Sir. We are here to make our world a better place for us and our children.
A police with a degree and physically fit is not sufficient. What we want is a police with morals and dignity.
