Paid a Bribe to Enter India to Get Married!
- Passport
- New Passport Application
- Paid INR 3,500
Hi
I was born in the UK however my brothers and sisters were born in Karachi Paskistan. My parents were both born in India. My Grandparents too were born in India. Our roots are in India. My parents worked in Africa and a short time in Pakistan and then settled here in the United Kingdom.
I met my wife on Shaadi.com and she is from India. I went to ********** her and my family also liked her. My parents had no problem getting a Visa. I had no problems getting a visa - however my siblings were being harrassed by the Indian Embassy here in the UK as their place of birth was a city in Pakistan. They had UK British passorts but still they harrassed us.
We had to make 9 trips to the Embassy when finally one of my siblings took a £50 note and said get this sorted for me. The very same day my family had their India Visa stamped in their UK Passports. Finally all 17 of us took our baraat to my wedding and I got married 3 years back.
Next month my wife will qualify for her British passport! (I wonder if they will harass her hehehe!)
I was so heart broken when the Indian embassy was causing so much trouble for us. We made so many trips to our local embassy which was a 2 hour drive away so that we can come to your wonderful country so that I can get married to my beautiful wife. The thought of not being able to get married without my family was a horrid thought.
I never knew my sibling paid a bribe, I only found out last year that this is what they had done!
In the end it was the best £50 spent approx 3500 INR - my family were with me on my wedding day. But shame on you Indian embassy in the UK your taking bribes here in the UK too!
It the first time my family member has ever given a bribe. Here in the UK you can never think an officer would ever accept a bribe - its such a disgusting thing to do.
I do hope one day the practice of taking and giving bribe disappears - its really hurting India's image abroad.
