Paid bribe to file an FIR and same for withdrawal too

Reported on November 24, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29756

One morning my friend who stayed in Murugeshpallya under HAL police limits called me up and said that there has been burglary in his house and his passport has been missing, so we both landed in the police station and lodged a complaint. Later next week we went to passport office for a duplicate passport, they rejected the application mentioning that they require an FIR and not a formal complaint. So we both had to revisit the police station again and mind you this is just a beginning.
After several failed attempts to get an FIR longed we were finally ready to pay a bribe; as we were losing both patience and time, so we paid Rs. 200 and got an FIR.
As we were already tired we decided that we will visit the passport office sometime later next week.
So in between 1 day my friend was cleaning his house, he found his passport lying in 1 corner; so we decided to withdraw the FIR complaint.
We never knew that our oudeal has just started, when we reached the police station to withdraw our FIR complaint, the cops asked us to shell out Rs. 500, even to withdraw?? They mentioned they were lot of paper works that needed to be done so this will make it fast.
Finally after lot of bargaining they settled for Rs. 200 and withdraw ed the FIR.
What a shame and shock i heard that police takes bribe for lodging a complaint but even to withdraw it, that was a shocker!!
Finally we went back home exhausted but smiling; we lost a hell lot of valuable time and our hard earned money too.
