Paid a bribe (forced tips almost) to the line-man

I had taken a BSNL telephone connection. The installation and wiring are all taken care of usually. But when the guy came to install he gave usual stories (like all bribe stories start) about how tough it was to get a line open for us from nearest post etc. and I knew where all this was going.
Now, only due to the 'mortal fear' of having our line tapped or cut or misused I thought forget it, let me give him 100 bucks. But that guy stood there and rudely demanded I give him Rs 500. Finally I had to give him Rs 300 and then he left saying 'Only we are there when you need us'. Thankfully nothing went wrong, but for a few days I was worried what he would be upto.
