I've just come back from the Magistrate Court at Bandra and had to pay a bribe of INR 5000 to file a petition for Return of property.
My maid servant had robbed my house and stolen my gold jewellery. I filed an FIR at the Mahim Police Station (after a lot of resistance from the cops to simply file an enquiry) on 24th Nov 2012, and the police recovered my jewellery in a few days. Since then, I've made 3 trips to the police station for just sitting in front of the Inspector in-charge for 5 minutes (after waiting for half an hour each time).
I finally went to the court today and the lawyer told me that if I dont pay INR 5000, it would take a lot more time to get my jewellery back and the cops might keep some of the gold articles recovered.
What kind of system is this where I have to pay a bribe to get my own property back?!!!!
