Paid bribe for police report in case of lost RC

I lost my RC book. I went to sangvi police station in pune about informing the lost RC book.They have no interest in taking complaint. For filing police report (for lost RC), they demanded RS 500 from me. I was really scared because it was the first time i went to police station and talking with police.I want to argue with them why i should pay the bribe you but i couldn't dare to argue with police because i was single and there were 4 other policemen staring at me. Finally they bargained with me and filed complaint for Rs 300. Immediately after receiving money, they started the procedure and gave me the xerox copy of police report within 5 minutes. I really felt guilt for my mistake.
