I had applied for renewal of my passport on 30th July 2013. Within a week, I got the new passport. After receiving the PP I got a call from Rajanna from Peenya Police Station to come for verification. When I visited the Police Station, he asked me bring address proof, ID proof, old passport and 2 passport size photographs. Next day I went to the station and gave the docs that he asked for along with photographs. Next day Rajanna called me and asked me to take him to his home for verification. Since I was in office I told him to go to my home on his own. After that he again called me to appear before Station head. I went there on 11th August, but station head did not turn up. Again on 12th August he called me to come. After waiting for 2 hours Station head came and after verifying the docs he said OK. After coming out Rajanna asked for the money, I gave him Rs. 200 but demanded more saying that others are giving >500. I told him that I gave all the docs that he asked for, then what for the money. Then I gave another Rs. 100, he let me go.
Since I stayed in 2 residences in the last one year, Rajanna was mentioning that I would get a call from other police station too. I am really tired of it. Since I work in a private company, how can get permission/leave to visit the station so many times.
I am not sure whether this is the procedure of police verification.
