Reported on November 22, 2013 from Pune , Maharashtra  ι Report #37846

On 19/11/2013 my friends birthday was there so we decided to give him a surprise and took him to a road square to cut cake at 12 since entry of girls is not allowed in my owner's house after 10:00 pm. We had just cutted cake and were clicking photos and some police men came asking us what we were doing and that they were getting sms alerts and all and started telling stories what happened in kalewadi and other places (never heard that) and demanded us to pay fine of Rs.5000 or else sit in their vehicle and go to police station. We told them ok we are leaving the place but they were not leaving us. Since a girl (our office friend) was their with us so we didn't wanted to create any trouble for her and gave Rs.500 bribe to that police men.

Is cutting cake and clicking photos road side around 12 at night is a offence , it may not be proper and they might have asked us to leave the place but asking us for paying fine unnecessarily... we were not drunk. They were also unwilling to give us a receipted challan for the amount paid. Furthermore, even in the case of traffic offences, I do not think it was a valid way for them to collect spot fines these days.
