Kaushambi office, near Water Tank, in Kaushambi has a gentleman who looks after property tax collection of Kaushambi area. I was indirectly discouraged to pay property tax and arrears. Instead, I was made to shell out Rs. 2000/- so that I could pay tax (just imagine, how stupid of me - bribe someone to pay tax due ). The basis of asking for bribe has been that my property has been rented and I should shell out 30% extra of the rent received during the year on top of the tax amount. That amount just sounds ridiculuous, and more so after already paying income tax on that (@ 30 p.a.). So in the end, I end up paying 60% tax in total (ridiculous, to say the least). I have a regular job and don't have time to run around chasing to pay up honestly. I know it does not reflect fair on my part either. But we must realise, that I like to be law abiding and pay up my taxes on time. What is more shameful, is that I need to grease palms to do the same!
