Hi,
I came back to India after completing my Postdoc in France, where I was working for its Department of Atomic Energy. There was a house construction going on at the other side of the small street, my house is located at. The owner of that house was trying to illegally extend the limits of his house and cover the whole street on the first floor of the house and thereby connecting his house to that of ours (which would definitely provide an unwanted access of this person to my house. We opposed this and filed a complaint in Nagar Palika. This person, however, bribed the SHO of our town and got support from the police. The police threatened my family. However, we kept opposing and informed Nagar Palika again. Seeing our opposition, which has nothing wrong to do (we were doing what Nagar Palika itself whould have taken care of by not allowing the house owner to extend the limits of his house over a public street), the police tried to manipulate me in a serious case of SC-ST act. They were saying that we have beaten some of the labours (belonging off course to SC-ST) and will get me behind the bars for that. My whole family was very very tense thinking about my career. We remained empty stomach and had sleepless nights for 2-3 days during which police kept threatening us. Finally, to save my career, we thought of getting rid of all this and contacted a local 'Neta Ji'. He told us that he will will get me away from the police case (manipulated by police) but we have to bribe police. Seeing no other option and to get rid of daily threatening of my family from police, we paid to Neta Ji and he then shared that with the police. we later on came to know that even Nagar Palika was bribed by the house owner and this was why Nagar Palika did not take any action on our complaint.
