I had parked my car alongside the road - on what is supposed to be an unused cycling track and was waiting in my car for my wife to arrive in her office cab. A traffic official backs up in his tow truck in front of me and says I am illegally parked. I tried to argue that I have been living in this area all my life now and that there were no signs that this is was indeed a cycling track, to which the gentleman offered to show me a dilapidated almost completely faded and half bent sign board. I inferred that argument was futile and asked him how much the fine was and to which he replies 2,200/- !! I have never ever heard in any city the parking fines to be anything close to what he was stating - without any official documentation ofcourse! He then quickly says I can always save them the trouble of making a challan but which would cost me 200/-. I am ashamed to say I paid 200/- to get out of the situation simply because I did not know what the correct fine for illegal parking is and I refuse to believe it can be 2,200/- !
