I'm 22 years old. When first time I got call for passport police verification I had no idea that I had to bribe the police officers. I got call from Baranagar Police Station, so I went empty hand. Seeing me alone they asked whether my father has come along with me. I said No I'm by myself. Then they said that your documents are not clear you need to submit xerox copy of your father's pension order, I said I don't have it. They said don't worry if you pay Rs 1000 now then we'll clear your documents. I said I don't have that much amount right now. They said, then fine come another time with the PO, so I went home and brought a copy of my father's PO the same day. They then said that we'll clear from our side but you might get your passport a little delayed. I said OK. I never received my passport. When inquired at the passport office several months back the personnel at the counter checked my profile and said my report came negative! My report said 'I do not have valid Indian citizenship', 'I do not live in W. Bengal'. Total bullshit! I made an appointment with the Passport officer and re-scheduled my police verification. On the next session I was called to Belgharia Police Stn. Here also I was asked 2000. I PAID 1000. The police asked don't you have any more I said, no sir I'm just a student. then the other officer said it's okay leave it. But this time they said I have to submit photo copy of my father's Election ID card. The next day I went to submit it. The officer asked have you brought anything? I said sir, right now I have 200. He said that will do. I PAID once again. The officer said, don't worry I'll submit your application today only. And I got my passport within a week! Unfortunately I don't remember the names of any of the officers.
