Police Harassment at Bhavdhan Police Chowki

- Police Harassment
- Paid INR 3,000
My brother met with an accident with apparently another bike taking a turn on a main road at Bhavdhan. Later taken to hospital with minor head and other injury and discharged 2 days later. Because of this head injury he does not remember the accident and events following the accident upto the next day morning. But luckily he is back to normal otherwise. Now his bike and the apparent bike against whom he collided was in police Bavdhan police chowki after the accident. The other individual on bike too who met with accident also had minor injuries. He very well knows what happened unlike my brother, and has no complaints against my brother, implying at least my brother is not at fault. So there is no police case. When both sides went to take our repective bikes from the chowki the police there ( in night duty) harrased us to pay him . When asked why? he threatened and almost ready to beat us for questioning him. He also told that he would make the other party file a case against my brother if we did not pay him. Although i was completely against paying this bribe and would not have obliged, i had to because the bike my brother rode was his friends bike which he had borrowed and the friend wanted the bike back from the police station at any cost the same day. He did not wanted to risk police fury.
I was kind of helpless...saddened. My brother probably for no fault of his had to sustain injuries, spend money for the hopital and again pay bribe to police to get his bike back. An individual in distress is not being helped only harrassed by the police.
Value for life, individual pride, principles have no place in the society.
Police are paid from the taxes we pay and in turn they harass us, threaten us and extract money from us.
