Police search fee

Having arrived in India we were leaving ********** ********** airport car park when our car is stopped by 2 policeman at the very first roundabout. The car is being driven by my cousin, the car is his dads who is also with us. The policemen ask for insurance papers and drivers licence which are all shown, then my son, aged 10, speaks and the police are suddenly interested as they hear a "foreign" accent and ask to check the luggage. 500 rupees is the fee if the search is not to be carried out.
